Weekly Update March 8, 2024

To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From:
Sam Oden, CEO of Solheim Senior Community

March always brings with it Daylight Savings Time – and so we “Spring Forward” an hour this Saturday night, March 9th.  March also brings with it the first day of Spring, which falls on March 19th this year… a day earlier than usual, in fact, thanks to the leap year!  Once our rain stops and the sun begins to shine once again, we encourage you to celebrate these longer Spring days by visiting our outdoor spaces across campus!

I’d like to announce that Solheim is delighted to welcome Spenser Wells back to our Solheim family!  As you’ll recall, Spenser was invaluable as one of our drivers (and also for his assistance with our technology needs).  Please know that as Spenser returns, he will be assuming a new role here at Solheim. Although we are still “fine-tuning” some of the details regarding exactly what that role will be, Spenser will be available to assist residents with troubleshooting technological issues – and he will also be taking on a prominent role in helping our newest residents get set up and acclimated to our Solheim family.  Please be sure to give Spenser a warm “welcome back” when you see him around campus next week!

Speaking of technology, if you are having any issues on that front, going forward please make sure that you fill out a work order request at our Nursing Stations or at the front desk. As with all work orders, we will do our very best to accommodate your requests within a 72-hour timeframe (usually it’s much quicker than that).  By submitting these requests through our online work order system, we’re better able to manage Solheim’s (and Spenser’s) time and resources.  As we’ve mentioned before, please be aware that many of these technology services do constitute an “additional service,” and as such they will be billed to you at our current administrative service rate in 20-minute increments.  We will be circulating an updated “Optional Services” sheet with your April statement which reaffirms that policy change once again in writing.

Our monthly calendar is full of many opportunities to get outdoors with our Walking Club; celebrate St. Patrick’s day with a themed Happy Hour (featuring Cleary’s Irish Dancers); and chances to sing, play games, and of course socialize.  We even have a Movie Matinee scheduled for this coming Tuesday @ 2 pm in our Residential Dining Room, complete with a concession stand!  We’re excited to present the PG Rated Movie Hidden Figures for your viewing pleasure.  As we prepare for this special event and set up our movie screen, please know that we will be moving a couple of tables in our dining room that will be affected on Tuesday for the lunch meal. (This will be a great opportunity to visit with some new people as we re-adjust seating for the lunch meal… thank you in advance for understanding.)

Masks are strongly recommended for visitors.   Staff who are not vaccinated with both the influenza and COVID -19 vaccines for 2023- 2024 winter season are still required to wear a mask in the Health Center/ Skilled Nursing campus.  Masks will be provided at the Front Desk.  All Solheim visitors and staff members must continue to conduct self-screening for symptoms of possible COVID-19 infection prior to entry.

If you have any specific questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at 323 257-7518 X225 or tantypas@solheimsenior.org.
