Solheim Senior Community
2236 Merton Ave,
Los Angeles, CA 90041
Attention to: Tina Antypas

Over the years, your donations have helped us to measurably further our mission in countless ways. Whether by financing our onsite clinic… subsidizing the purchase of new electric beds in our Skilled Nursing facility… allowing us to remodel our beautiful Chapel… helping to keep our Senior-focused “Wellness Center” stocked with new equipment… or allowing us to provide charitable care to those residents who have outlived their financial resources at our community…

our donors have always been an integral part of Solheim’s success.

In honor of that rich and continuing legacy, we invite our friends and supporters—individuals, corporations, foundations, and senior advocacy and healthcare organizations alike—to join us in building on nearly a century of excellence here at Solheim. You all help us to make this a thriving community where love, respect, and joy remain the order of the day.

Ways to Give

Unrestricted Gifts

Unrestricted Gifts allow Solheim the flexibility to allocate funds wherever the need is greatest, and to take advantage of unique opportunities as they arise. Your unrestricted contribution may be used to support costs associated with charitable care, innovations in healthcare, equipment, facilities, and much more.

Directed Gifts

Directed Gifts allow you to designate your gift to support a specific project or need at Solheim. When you make a directed gift to Solheim, you enjoy the satisfaction of knowing you are supporting a specific cause or program that is personally meaningful to you.

Bequests

Creating a will can be the first step toward a wise financial plan for you and your family—and it can also serve as a vehicle to give to charitable organizations that you wish to support. A valid will allows you, rather than your state's law, to determine the distribution of your assets upon your death. Whether you are providing for a spouse, children, charitable organizations, or all of the above, your will should be prepared with the help of a qualified attorney, and reviewed regularly thereafter.

A bequest through a will or a revocable trust is the most popular and flexible way of making an estate gift to Solheim Senior Community. Over the years, Solheim Senior Community has received many such bequests, of all sizes. Bequests don’t have to be large to have a lasting impact on Solheim’s residents, families, and programs. For specific bequest language for your estate plan, please contact Solheim’s Development Office.

Gift Pledges

Solheim also welcomes gifts through a pledge—a formal statement of intention to make a gift to Solheim. With a pledge, you may complete your gift by making regular payments over time, perhaps allowing you to give even more generously than you originally thought possible. Furthermore, each individual payment on your pledge is eligible for an income-tax charitable deduction.

Outright Gifts

When you make an outright gift to Solheim Senior Community, your contribution can be put to work immediately—either by providing funding for current programs, or creating a reliable source for future expansion. An outright gift may be composed of almost any asset of value:

  • Cash Gifts—the simplest and easiest gifts you can make—can be made through credit/debit card transactions, outright cash, or personal checks, cashier’s checks, or money orders made payable to Solheim Lutheran Home.

  • Gifts of appreciated securities, stocks, and bonds also provide considerable tax advantages when transferred, providing a twofold tax benefit: creating an income-tax deduction, as well as helping avoid the capital-gains tax that would have been due on their sale. (You may also donate mutual funds, non-marketable stock, or closely-held stock.)

  • Gifts of real estate—including personal residences, second homes, income property, and vacant land—similarly offer a wide array of tax and other benefits. Whereas most people donate their entire interest away, it is also possible to donate only a portion of a property (i.e., an undivided percentage interest) while retaining the rest for other purposes.

  • Gifts of personal property—including valuable rare books, valuable works of art, valuable collectibles, and/or other tangible items of demonstrable value—may in some cases enable you to make a significant gift to support Solheim while simultaneously securing outstanding tax benefits for yourself. Likewise, gifts of intangible personal property (such as copyrights, patents, and mineral rights) can be used to generate income for a program of your choice on a continuing basis.

… And Don’t Forget “Matching-Gift” Programs!

One easy way to potentially double or even triple your donation to Solheim is to find out if your company has a matching-gift program. Such programs typically match either all, or a percentage, of an employee’s contributions to charitable organizations—making the employer a functional partner in its employees’ personal philanthropy. Simply obtain a matching-gift form from your employer’s personnel office, fill it out, and provide it to Solheim with your contribution!
