COVID-19 Updates

June 19, 2020 WEEKLY Update

June 19, 2020
To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO

In some ways, this week has been relatively quiet.  We have no new positive cases since last Friday’s communication!  We will continue testing our staff regularly and will continue to offer testing to all residents in our community.

As of today, we have no positive residents or staff in our Halvorson Memory Care Neighborhood or in our Residential and Assisted Living Campus.  We have 4 active cases of Skilled Nursing Residents, 3 active cases of Skilled Nursing direct care staff members, and 1 active case of a non-direct care staff member, who have tested positive for COVID-19.

As we discuss a gradual re-opening plan, we will follow the guidelines set, which involve requirements related to testing, positive cases, and timing.  We will keep you informed as we work on setting a system for limited family visitations with certain social distancing and face covering requirements.

The biggest news this week is the announcement of Paloma Barroso’s retirement in early July. Paloma has been with us for over 22 years, serving in a variety of roles, most recently as our Director of Residential Services & Wellness. We are so thankful for her many years of service here at Solheim Senior Community and are sad to see her go. Paloma has shared that she will be moving back to Spain sometime later this year, and we wish her the best in all her future endeavors. Paloma’s last day will be July 3rd.

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, we will not be having a farewell gathering, but I encourage you to reach out to Paloma to bid her farewell individually if you would like to.

“Serving Solheim’s residents and families has opened my heart wide.  I leave behind my gratitude and intention that hopefully made a difference in the community.  I leave with no regrets and take with me your support and love.  As I continue my journey in this new chapter of my life, I’ll take every one of you in my heart.  Emma, Suzy and I will miss you, but we will stay in touch.  Thank you for every second, every minute and every day of my 22 years at Solheim.  I count myself blessed”.—Paloma Barroso

Please consider a donation towards our Wellness Center in her honor. Visit our website to make a donation.

We continue to grow our one-on-one activities as we move into July. Residents will take “virtual” vacations, relax with chair yoga, do some gardening, refresh the heart and soul with morning walks and Bible Study, exercise in the Wellness Center and stay connected with families via FaceTime and Skype.

We continue to accept applications for residency in our Halvorson Memory Care Neighborhood, as well as our Residential and Assisted Living Campus.  If you would like more information, please contact our Director of Sales, Lucy Laloyan at 323 257 7518 X212 or email

Many of us hear in the news daily of cities reopening, and the happenings at various skilled nursing facilities. We encourage you to reach out to us with questions that may not be addressed in these communications. Our wish is to reopen fully as much as anyone, however we are aware that we must continue with the best infection control practices in order to keep our residents, staff friends and family members safe. This is our highest priority.

We will continue to update you as changes occur. If you have any questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at or call 323 257-7518 X2259
