COVID-19 Updates

March 19, 2020

March 19, 2020
To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Sam Oden, CEO

We continue to restrict all non-essential personnel and continue to ask that all non-essential visitors (including family members, friends, children, etc) postpone ALL visits to Solheim until further notice.

Thank you for your support and participation in helping us here at Solheim keep the health and safety of our residents, family members and staff a priority in stopping the spread of Covid-19. These are unprecedented times, and we are all learning together. Many family members have taken advantage of our digital communication and video chats with their loved ones!  Thank you!

Your kind words shared on how we’re addressing the issue is appreciated.  In fact, with our residents visits restricted, communal dining halted and group activities eliminated, we are searching for new ways to keep our residents engaged.

A compassionate note or letter to us that we can share with our residents, or an uplifting comment or words of encouragement for our staff, and all they’re doing, is much appreciated.  Send your notes via email as a reply to this message, or drop an old fashioned card or letter in the mail!  Everyone loves to get a note in the mail!

We will continue to find ways to create the abundant life that is our mission in these very challenging days.   As we continue to adjust to the changing landscape, please remember we are still restricting visitors and non-essential personnel until further notice.  We cannot stress enough the importance of restricting onsite visits, and the infection control measures we have put into place in stopping the spread of the virus in our community.

If you have any questions, please direct them to Tina Antypas at or call 323 257-7518 X225.

Steps we’re taking

Based on input and direction from our local agencies and Government, Solheim has implemented the additional procedures:

Cancelled all large group gatherings and events, communal dining, and group activities
Instituted one point of entry to Solheim for staff, vendors and residents through our Front Lobby
Active screening for signs and symptoms of infection
Actively disinfecting on a regular schedule
Teaching proper handwashing technique as one of the first and foremost ways of preventing the spread of germs
Video calls (FaceTime or Skype) with loved ones available for scheduling by visiting our website.

We encourage you to use digital/virtual communication to stay in touch with friends and family members during this time. We understand this may cause an inconvenience; however, we serve one of the most vulnerable populations, and appreciate you being a big part of helping keep our staff and residents safe and healthy.

Steps you can take

Practice preventative measures by doing the following:

Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
Cover your cough or sneeze with tissue, throw tissue in trash
Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (say the ABCs)
Help us by visiting your loved one virtually, rather than in person
