To: Solheim Employees, Residents, Family Members and Stakeholders
From: Solheim CEO, Sam Oden
At Solheim, the health and safety of our residents, family members and staff are top of mind amid concerns about the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). We are dedicated to sharing as much information with you about how we continue to plan and coordinate our services to our residents.
Steps we’re taking:
Our staff are monitoring information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), California Department of Public Health (CDPH), and other state and local agencies to help ensure the actions we're taking are in line with the latest CDC recommendations and guidance. We are communicating regularly with our staff and residents to keep them informed and to ensure their safety and that of our residents and family members.
Based on input and direction from our local agencies and Government, Solheim has implemented the following:
Cancelled all large group gatherings and events
Instituted one point of entry to Solheim for staff, vendors and residents (this entry point will be our Main Entrance beginning on Monday March 16th at 7am). The Skilled Nursing entrance remains the entry point for employees only from 7pm to 7am. From today through Monday morning at 7am, Skilled Nursing will remain the point of entry.
Active screening for signs and symptoms of infection (fever, cough, shortness of breath, etc) at point of entry for all (staff, residents, family, vendors, etc.)
Restricted/limited visitation based on CMS' guidelines. We continue to ask that all residents postpone all planned non-essential visits from visitors, including family members, friends, etc.
Monitoring all supplies and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to make sure we are well stocked
Adjusting meal schedule options for residents to address social distancing guidelines
Teaching proper handwashing technique as one of the first and foremost ways of preventing the spread of germs
Video calls (FaceTime or Skype) with loved ones. In the next couple of days we will be sending out a link so you can schedule time to FaceTime or Skype with your loved ones.
We continue to ask that all residents postpone all planned non-essential visits from visitors, including family members, friends, etc. We encourage you to use digital/virtual communication to stay in touch with friends and family members during this time. If you need assistance with setting up or using a device, please contact the front desk and we will assist you. We have devices available here on campus to assist with this type of communication. We understand that this request is difficult, and we hope this will only be for a short time.
As of Monday, March 16th at 7am we will ask all staff, visitors, family members, etc. to enter through our main Front Entrance lobby to be screened for symptoms of the virus.
Steps you can take:
Practice preventative measures by doing the following:
Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
Cover your cough or sneeze with tissue, throw tissue in trash
Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (say the ABCs)
Stay up to date. For more information on Solheim activities, please visit our website www.solheimsenior.org
Our first priority remains keeping Solheim staff, residents and family members safe and well-informed while doing what we can to help minimize potential spread of the coronavirus. Please know we are devoting significant resources and efforts to help mitigate against possible adverse impacts from the coronavirus and will continue working hard to provide the level of care you have come to expect.
We understand this may cause an inconvenience; however, we serve one of the most vulnerable populations, and appreciate your help in keeping our staff and residents healthy. Regular updates will be emailed and posted to www.solheimsenior.org. We will continue to monitor local, state, and federal reports and share information as it becomes available.
